sunrise

{i'm working on a new project.
it's a book written in free form poetry
like out of the dust by karen hesse.
only it's about a summer romance.
no names, no descriptions, no quotes
like a distant memory in a way.
here's the prologue of sorts}

I'm here again
At the same spot.
Our last meeting place.
Where we said goodbye.

The dawn is breaking
Into a sunrise.
We never saw one of those-
None that I recall.

It's warm here.
Even now,
In this time of year.

I can smell the air,
Full of brine, so salty,
Yet lovely and kind,
Enveloping me
In the warmest memories.

I can almost feel
Your breath,
Along my cheek,
Cool and hot.

My knees are shaking,
And my heart is racing.

I stand still-
So very still-
Hoping this illusion lasts.

I close my eyes.
I can almost here you-
Laughing at me
And comforting me.
Loving me.

But time does not stop.
And when I open my eyes,
The illusion is gone
As the sunrise ends.
